Bone-Breaking- A Popular Dance Style Evolved From Hip-Hop?

Have you heard of the dance style “bone breaking”? As noticeable as its name hints, the dance form is gaining popularity especially on Instagram.


What is bone breaking?

Bone-breakers also known as contortionists perform incredible movements dislocating their shoulders, hands and limbs to create fluid movements. They are spectacular to watch but can also make you feel sick.

On Instagram, users have expressed sheer love for this dance form where dancers have posted more than 6,000 posts with the hashtag #bonebreaking, and #bonebreak.

Bone breaking | Inception

Bone breaking traces its roots in Brooklyn, New York where you will see young dancers often compete in dance competitions like Battle Fest. Bone breaking, a kind of flex dancing, is a contortionist form of dance. Many hold misconceptions that bone-breaking evolved from hip hop dance. However, it actually is a dance form which has its roots in a Jamaican dance form called bruk-up. This fact is as stated by The New Yorker’s video explaining bone breaking as a dance form.

Flex dancers have been performing in Brooklyn since 2006, as per the New York Post.

Busta Rhymes has featured bruk-up dancers in his music videos, and on Madonna’s MDNA tour in 2013, six of her 22 dancers were bone breakers.

Break dance is one of the most wonderful body dance forms. Dance aficionados have been practicing break dance since its inception in U.S. in 1969. Break dance incidentally also favored evolution of the hip hop culture.

Here are few steps which will make you dance to the groove.

Fundamental Break Dance Movements:

Some basic break dance moves which you can start with are:
Top Rock- Top rock is the basic warm-up hop step. One can do power step, side step, or boyoing. (You can even sway your hands open making you feel a free-bird.)-


The Footwork- This is basic dance step which focuses on your foot works. Here you can also do coffee grinder, kick-outs and zulu spins. Begin with the coolest yet easiest 6-step. Basically the 6-step requires you to place your one hand over the floor while you circle around the ground. The following illustrations will guide you. Eminem is regarded as one of the iconic names in the Hip-Hop genre. However, before this he had his share of crap too. Eminem succumbed to drug abuse during the shooting of 8 Mile in 2002. (The movie is awesome!) He used to be on set for 16 hours every day and suffered insomnia. However, he emerged victorious in a conventional style. With an attitude reloaded, Eminem made a huge contribution in making hip-hop mainstream as one of the biggest selling genres.  I personally love “Cleanin’ Out My Closet”, from his 3rd album, The Eminem Show.

Well, well, well when it comes to Hip-Hop how you can forget the Big Poppa of Hip-Hop? Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G, Biggie or Biggie Smalls, was an American rapper. Biggie is known for his charismatic disposition and his lyrics regarded as “most fly”. His murder during a shooting in 1997 was traumatizing and felt as the end of hip-hop. However, 18 years after his death, Biggie is still the king of New York.

The 2 Easy Dance Steps That Will Definitely Calm You Down!

Life is hard, we know. It's a tapestry of lot of things like work stress, melodrama, struggling in bad traffic or too much of belly fat! Too little sleep and holes in favorite jeans and terse emails also perhaps can cause much ado. And all this hurly-burly can cause mood swings and make one lose his calm.

So what you can do? Umm, how about going to a zen dog like this-



Oh okay…I know that you will have to encounter Moses for the same. Let’s have a look at another option. How about a cat dance masseuse like the one below-



Oh I forgot; you might get bacne or perhaps more!

If you still got some stress left then it will surely dissuade with the 2 easy dance steps you’ll notice further. Also you will always look awesome on the dance floor!

THE TWO STEPPER

Now this the simplest step which makes you groove and ooze out the stress while you enjoy. Also it is a step which you can partake and look awesome on the dance floor.



Simply step your left leg out to your left as shown above. And then bring it back to meet your right leg. The right leg will then move forward and again come back to meet your left leg. And the cycle will continue. Pretty simple, eh?



Now you can make it look cool by giving it a sway. So you need to bend your right knee outwards and hands swaying on the opposite as shown above. The same will apply on with your left leg. To add more fun and tempo snap your fingers which will also give it a light soothing rhythm.

How cool and jazzy, isn’t it?

THE BOUNCE

Now by bounce I don’t mean you to do something weird like this:



Lol.. However, when it comes to the bounce step all you need is “YOU” and perhaps your best buddies.



The bounce is even easier than the two-step. It’s because it does not even need a rhythm. All you need is a base, claps, boom, whoo-hoos and finger snaps! The idea is to groove on your toes as shown above and "Just bounce to it." Keep your shoulders relaxed and let your arms and legs sway.
Now if you want more of it then you must watch the dance video from the movie “Pulp Fiction” which is my personal favorite. John Travolta and Uma Thurman truly groove sexy!
